4 Essential Elements for Your Landing Page
When you think of a landing page, you might think it’s just the homepage of your website. That’s a common misconception many people have. However, your landing page is ANY page on your website that you’re sending visitors to. For example, if you’re running Google Ads for a specific service you offer, and you’re sending users to that service page on your website when they click your ad (not the homepage), then that page would be considered a landing page. It is essential to create a great landing page experience for your users. Why? Because Google measures this when it comes to running ads, SEO (search engine optimization), and more.
We’ve compiled a couple of tips for creating the best landing page for your website.
Headlines
Your main headline at the top of your landing page needs to capture the attention of your website visitors. It should be short, concise and straight to the point. Think about the content on the page and what you’re trying to get across to users. For Zellus Marketing, it might say “Website Design in Huntsville, Alabama” if we were sending users to our website services page. You should also accompany it with a supporting headline below that’s a bit smaller, but contains a little more information. Here’s a great example for what your opening headlines should look like:
Explain Your Service/Offer
The content on your landing page should explain in detail the service you are offering, or whatever you’re trying to get across to your users. You sent them to this landing page – now why should they stay and complete the call to action? You have to deliver the user what they are looking for. For example, if Zellus Marketing is sending users to our website design page, but on the page it talks about social media marketing, then more than likely that user is going to exit the page, right? Providing well-written and unique content on your landing page is of the utmost importance for more reasons than just a great user experience – it also affects your SEO, maybe without you even knowing it. Be aware of the content you are putting on this page, and make sure it will keep readers interested and engaged, and will bring them to either purchasing from your business, or submitting a lead.
Add Some Visuals
Now that we’ve discussed the written content on your landing page, let’s talk about visual elements such as photos, videos or GIFs. Once again, you need to put yourself in your audience’s shoes. If you visited a website – what would keep YOU interested and engaged? Not just a load of text and words, right? Adding some images and videos to not only help break up the blocks of text, but also keep users on your landing page for longer. That is how Google ranks your landing page experience, by how long users stay on your page, and how relevant the content is. Adding a ‘how-to’ video that explains how to use your product before purchasing is a great way to grab users attention. Other visuals you might include are before and after photos, photos of your product, share examples of work you’ve done for others, a team photo etc. Just be sure the visual elements are relevant to the content.
Call To Action
We touched on call to action above, but let’s break this down a little more. Your call to action (CTA) on your website’s landing page is the goal you are hoping to achieve. Do you want to sell more products, receive more phone calls/leads, or more form submissions? Whatever you are trying to drive users to do on this landing page, is your call to action. We have found that having your CTA at the top of your landing page is better in Google’s eyes. Instead of having it at the bottom below all of your content, try incorporating it as close to the top of your landing page as possible. This prevents users from having to scroll through the entire page in order to find it which can result in a high bounce rate. Your CTA should be bold, eye-catching and easy to find.
These tips are just a small start to all of the great elements of a landing page. It can be a daunting task and that’s why Zellus Marketing of Huntsville is here to help! If you’re in need of website design and development services, contact us today!
